This year’s topic is Written in Stone: American Monuments and Monument-Protection Laws and will address monument conflicts, monument-protection laws, and the role of state and local governments in dealing with both. The symposium will explore issues related to monuments to the Confederacy or former Confederate figures, especially in places where state laws inhibit local governments that wish to remove such monuments.  Speakers include historians, legal scholars, and policymakers with keynotes from Former Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, Sanford Levinson, Martha Jones, Rich Schragger and other D.C. Circuit Judge Robert L. Wilkins. If you would like to see a schedule of events click the link below: If you will be attending the symposium's lunch, please RSVP with a lunch ticket.
